Skoda gives more detail on Superb estate
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Skoda has released more details of the UK line-up for its keenly awaited big Superb estate. The range will broadly mirror that for the existing hatchback model in terms of engines and trim levels; the exception is that there is no estate equivalent for the eco-oriented Greenline diesel version of the hatch.
One surprise, perhaps, is that the estate will be available with the small turbocharged 1.4 litre petrol engine that is the entry-level power unit for the hatchback. Other petrol engines include a turbocharged 1.8 litre and a big 3.6 litre V6 paired with four-wheel drive. Diesels are the older 1.9 litre VW diesel in 105 horsepower form, and the group's more modern common-rail 2.0 litre offering 140 or 17 horsepower.
The exact prices for the new car have not yet been released, but the company says that customers will pay a premium for the estate over the equivalent hatchback model of between £1,150 and £1,350.
Skoda hasn't offered a large estate before but if it's as good as the hatchback it will provide tough competition for the estate versions not only of mainstream rivals such as the Ford Mondeo and the Vauxhall Insignia but of some of the German prestige models such as the Audi A6 and Mercedes E Class.
