Jaguar XF: Updated executive saloon features all-wheel drive

Not every XF buyer in the UK will feel the need for all-wheel drive, but there’s a strong demand for it in both Europe and the snow belt of the US.
Here at least the AWD XF can only be bought with the 180PS version of Jaguar’s Ingenium diesel engine. This powertrain – which adds 105kg to the weight – gives it a top speed of 136mph and a 0-60 time of 7.9sec, 0.2sec longer than the standard RWD car takes.
Other Jaguars such as the F-Type and XE already offer a 4x4 option. The XF uses the same Intelligent Driving Dynamics system as the AWD F-Type. In normal conditions it transfers all torque to the real wheels, and switches some to the front axle when traction is reduced or when oversteer is experienced in fast bends.
Configurable Dynamics, a driver-tunable system for suspension, steering, throttle and transmission settings that was previously exclusive to V6-engined models, is also being offered on the AWD XF.
Comparing prices to the XF Prestige 180PS RWD model, the addition of all-wheel drive on the £36,350 Prestige 180PS AWD brings a cost penalty of around £1800.
