In a sign of the automotive times, next year's Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas is to dedicate an entire zone to electric vehicles, organizers confirmed last week.

A total of 3,500 square feet (324 square meters) of exhibition space will be set aside for the Electric Vehicle TechZone, an exhibition dedicated solely to electric vehicles which will be in the North Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Gary Shapiro, the president and CEO of CES said that Audi, Ford, GM and Toyota would all be at the show, which runs in Las Vegas January 6-9.

Ford confirmed October 7 that it has quardrupled its space at CES this year, with CEO Alan Mulally returning to give a keynote address for the third straight year on January 7 - last year Mulally's introduction of the new MyFord Touch operating system won him a "Best of CES" award from CNET magazine.

Audi Chairman Rupert Stadler is also slated to speak at the show on January 6.

Other automotive highlights at the show are expected to include energy storage devices and charging solutions, safe driving technology such as collision avoidance, lane drift assistance and parking assistance and location-based services showcasing the latest navigational devices.

CES is the world's largest consumer electronics show and runs January 6-9 in Las Vegas, Nevada, in the US.
