Car Choice: Shogun or Jeep?
Karl Smith is after a cheap tow car that can accommodate a “front pusher” towbar. The budget is £4,000 – preferably less

A Car for the Head
For those who don’t know, a pusher towbar is as the name suggests, mounted at the front rather than the rear of a vehicle. They are used to move boats, trailers and caravans around often when they need to be parked in a compound or manoeuvred in a really tight spot. A Mitsubishi Shogun is very reliable and the three-door model would be perfect for shifting loads around in confined areas. We found a 2002 3.2TD Equippe with an automatic gearbox, which should make it even easier to use. The price was just £2,499.

A Car for the Heart
Just imagine if we said to Karl that he could have a convertible 4 x 4 when he is working hard moving things about? During the couple of days a year when we have a summer, that could make his working life more pleasurable. An open top would also mean lots of visibility. Combine that with a small body, but a powerful engine and that would be perfect. Does such a vehicle exist? Yes, a Jeep Wranger. A 1993 4.0 Limited version is a classic old-school off-roader. All this for a reasonable £3,950.
