Car choice: Morris Minor or Citroen 2CV for a practical classic?
David Ellis has owned Citroen 2CVs and loved them. Now he wants to sell his BMW 330d – but is buying another 2CV a good idea?
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.A car for the head
What David needs is a vehicle that has bags of character and is practical – but most of important of all, one that is easy to maintain and all parts should be available. It would also help if the prices were reasonable. At the moment classic prices have been rising exponentially so it would be good if we could find a bargain. I think the Morris Minor would be great and a specialist like Charles Ware’s Morris Minor Centre has everything the owner needs. That includes complete cars and a 1967 saloon on sale at £6,750 is in immaculate condition.
A car for the heart
Because David loves Citroen 2CVs, why not simply buy one? This iconic French car is extremely well supported and it is possible to get just about every single part to keep them running. An acquired taste, 2CVs are not for everyone but most will love the quirky looks and the fabulously comfortable ride it gives. The 2CV Shop.co.uk is just one company, which provides excellent help for owners. A private green and white 1989 Dolly with four previous owners and just 25,000 miles on the clock, boasting new roof and seat covers, can be found for £5,995.
