Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

There’s nothing better in life than to have a little nosey in somebody’s house, especially when it belongs to a multi-millionaire.

Meryl Streep is letting go of her decadent New York City abode that would make even Miranda Priestley envious.

The Academy Award-winning actress has listed her 4,000-square-foot Tribeca apartment she shares with her husband Don Gummer and now, available at a jaw-dropping $24.6 million (£19.2m), it is ready for a close up in all its glory.

And it is anything but basic.

The four-bedroom apartment in the River Lofts Building - which has a doorman, concierge, fitness centre and a parking garage - sits sky high above the Hudson River in one of the city’s trendiest neighbours, Tribeca.

With walls decorated with lavish pieces of artwork, the penthouse also features four bedrooms, walk-in closets and an urban jungle terrace that boasts panoramic views of the Big Apple.

Sitting on the 24th floor, it is accessed via a private elevator that opens out into a monumental hallway leading to a cosy library that looks out onto the beautiful terrace and the impressive living space.

The apartment languishes in natural light, thanks to its walls of triple glazed windows that wrap around the apartment and a freestanding fireplace that divides the living room. While the dining room is lit by a luxurious chandelier that wouldn’t be out of place in Jay Gatsby’s Hamptons hideaway.

The living space also features a free-standing fireplace and the living area that is surrounded by walls of triple glazed windows and a freestanding fireplace that divides the living room while the dining room is lit by a far more ethereal and romantic chandelier.

Located on just the one floor, hardwood floors run throughout the apartment that features luxury furniture, including two chaise lounges and a 6-burner cooktop.

Streep seems to be quite fond of plants as the whole property has been decorated with botanical plants, with a fig tree draping over the free-standing bathtub in the master bathroom.

The couple purchased the luxe apartment for $10m (£7.8m) back in 2006 and have listed it for sale with Real Estate firm Douglas Elliman.

Streep and her husband already own a glamorous 90-acre estate in Connecticut which is their primary residence, as well as their $3.6 million (£2.8m) house in the foothills of Pasadena, California.
