Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

A company has designed insoles specifically for men to increase their height.

Both men and women adopt various techniques to boost their confidence, whether it’s putting on mascara, getting a haircut or wearing a new outfit.

Sometimes people who are shorter than their peers can struggle with self-esteem issues, according to a study.

A researcher from Princeton University in America and an independent scholar explored the correlation between height and confidence, concluding that the two are likely linked.

“[Taller people] evaluate their lives more favourably, and they are more likely to report a range of positive emotions such as enjoyment and happiness,” the researchers wrote.

“They are also less likely to report a range of negative experiences, like sadness, and physical pain.”

With that in mind, Altitude Lifehacks decided to develop an insole for men to help increase their confidence.

Made from silicone, Altitude Insoles come in three different heights so you can choose whether you’d like to opt for a 2cm, 3cm or 5cm height increase.

James Silverstone, CEO of Altitude Lifehacks, wanted to create a product that men could subtly wear on a daily basis that could give them a boost, both literally and figuratively.

“We are big believers in genuine self-improvement, but sometimes it’s OK to use a few shortcuts!”, he wrote.

“Whether it’s health, wealth or relationships. We’ve got your back. We will find you the best latest gear that will give you that edge.”

While a person’s height has been shown to have an impact on their self-assurance, another study argues that the reason behind this connection has never been entirely clear.

“Across cultures, taller stature is linked to increase social status, but the potential reasons why this should be are unclear,” the study states.

“We conclude that human height is positively related to interpersonal dominance, and may well contribute to the widely observed association between height and social status.”
