According to Megyn Kelly, the host of the Megyn Kelly Today show, the key to staying thin is fat-shaming.

While interviewing fitness blogger Maria Kang Thursday, who was embroiled in her own fat-shaming controversy in 2013 when she posted a photo showing off her abs along with her three kids, with the caption, “What’s your excuse?” Kelly made the offensive comments - and people are disgusted.

Referencing the controversy, Kelly responded, “Some of us want to be shamed!” before revealing that, while in law school, she asked her own stepfather to fat-shame her.

According to Kelly, after she began to gain weight while in law school she enlisted her stepfather’s help, telling him, “If you see me going into that kitchen one more time, you say, 'Where you going, fat ass?'"

And according to Kelly, the tactic really works - so well, in fact, that she then suggested Kang “turn the shaming thing into a professional business.”

Kang, who was on the show to reveal her new laid-back approach to fitness and her dedication to inspiring other mums to work out, rather than fat-shaming them, seemed taken aback by the host’s comments.

However, despite the uncomfortable laughter from the audience, Kang revealed that her husband will do the same thing to get her going, even hiding bags of chips if he finds her eating them.

On Twitter, people are understandably confused and upset by the host’s comments.

Others believe Kelly’s comments irresponsibly reinforce harmful eating-disorder mindsets.

While Megyn Kelly may consider fat-shaming an effective weight loss tactic, it does not seem that others share her views.
