From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The newlyweds went for something different for those all-important wedding photos, but made a crucial error in the process.
The bride Stephanie and her new husband Miles held up painted letters at the ceremony which spelled out “I do” and then “S & M” — referencing the first initial of each partner’s name.
However, it appears they may have missed something. The bride’s sister, on the other hand, certainly didn’t and chose to post the image on Reddit, with the caption: “Some people bond over church, others bond over sports, and a few bond over pain, either self-inflicted or inflicted on others.”
Given the smiles produced in the photo, the couple were seemingly unaware they had inadvertently referred to the sexual practice, sadomasochism.
Users on Reddit soon commented that similar things had happened to them and their partner, only realising the errors either once photos were taken or messages had already been iced on top of cakes.
