From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. A couple married for 82 years have revealed the three things that are needed for a happy marriage.

Nicholas and Rafaela Ordaz from California got married in 1934 and have lived long enough to meet their grandchildrens' grandchildren.

Mr Ordaz got married aged 20 and revealed their three-point guide to marital bliss to Fox insider: “Respect, affection, and not sweating the small stuff."

The week before their wedding anniversary, the couple were lucky to celebrate Mr Ordaz's 102nd birthday surrounded by friends and family.

Nicholas and Rafaela are currently seven couples behind the longest living married couple, Karam and Katari Chand from Bradford, Lancashire, who have been married for 90 years.

Speaking about the longevity of his marriage to Mrs Chand, Mr Chand told MailOnline: "We just get along with each other and we are family focused, its simple really."
