The most ridiculous reasons couples have argued
Couples fight over the strangest things
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Every couple has its tiffs – whether it’s about taking out the bins or forgetting to put the toilet seat down.
Studies have shown that arguing in a relationship is bad for your health. Research by the Brigham Young University in Utah showed that those that regularly argued with their partner had worse general health than those who had a happy marriage.
However, a similar study, undertaken by the University of California found that those who argued reported they had lower satisfaction in their relationships - unless they felt understood by their partner.
It can be universally accepted though that some arguments are more ridiculous than others, and people have shared the weirdest arguments they’ve gotten into with their partners on the anonymous sharing app Whisper.
On the theme of household chores, one couple argued because they’d taken their partners shoes out of the dryer to stop them making noise in the middle of night.
The subject of toilet rolls proved to be a touchy subject for one couple, who argued over whether it should be left under or over.
One couple argued over “how raisins were made”.
Another pair managed to get into an argument over the spelling of “vagina”. One argued that the slang “vaj” confused them into thinking there was a “j” in “vagina”.
In perhaps one of the weirdest confessions, a couple admitted to arguing about whether or not whales would one day evolve legs.
Another couple, presumably while on a trip away, argued over who got to use the memory foam pillow while staying at the hotel.
