Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

It's one of the most unlikely fetishes on the web - and it's surprisingly popular.

People who are turned on by sneezing or watching other people sneezing share their stories and kinks online, and the Sneezing Fetish Forum has almost 500,000 posts.

In it, members have wrestled with where their unique kink comes from.

One man said he realised his sexual preferences were unusual before he was even a teenager.

"I realised that I had 'something' for sneezes when I was around eight years old.

"I would search for people sneezing on the computer almost constantly. When I would get home I would instantly go on the computer and look at stuff about sneezing for hours.

"Back then I had no idea why I was feeling so 'weird' but when I was 11 I figured out what a fetish was and I accpeted that I had one."

A user called SneezyRoleplay wrote: "I actually stumbled upon some sneeze fanfiction and I was in heaven and now I'm part of the forum and loving it."

Some document their attempts to get sick so they can sneeze all day.

A member of a sneezing forum wrote: "I know this is weird, but I just like being sick and my immune system is ridiculously strong.

"Maybe I just need some exposure to the cold weather to put me over the edge. So tonight I'm soaking my feet in cold water and going for a run outside."

Others describe seeing sneezes in real life, with one man writing about a woman he saw sneeze: "She had a amazing pre-sneeze face."

A section called 'media archives' allows users to share clips of celebrities, sports stars and members of the public who've been caught sneezing on TV or in films.

A clip of tennis star Rafa Nadal sneezing on court prompted a response from one user saying: "Oh. MYYYYYYYYYYYYY... THANK YOU for sharing this!!!"

Others shared more clips of him sneezing, with one person saying they'd discovered a "goldmine of gorgeous photo sneezes".

The written commentary on the clips people share are restrained for a fetish site, but all the more bizarre for it.

A recent clip shared titled "QI sneezes" feature two people sneezing during the popular BBC quiz show.

The user's post said: "Firstly, at 13.20 you can see Cariad Lloyd sneeze (unfortunately you can't hear it) and afterwards she makes a cute comment that she is allergic to the picture of the horse.

"Secondly, at 17.26 a woman in the audience sneezes and Phil Jupitus blesses her."

Other questions posed on the forum include: "Can you guess someone's sneeze by their personality or appearance?" and "Do people from the Czech Republic sneeze a lot more?"
