When the pandemic first began, some experts hypothesised that the period would lead to a baby boom as couples spent increased time together. However, according to the latest findings, the opposite has become true, with many couples deciding to avoid having children.
That doesn’t necessarily mean that the pandemic has had a negative impact on sex lives, however, as numerous people have shared the upsides to quarantining together on the app Whisper, which allows users to share anonymous secrets.
In a blog post titled: "Couples Weigh In: This is How Quarantine has Affected my Sex Life," the app shared a list of “real posts on the Whisper app,” where individuals have revealed the intimate effects of the pandemic.
“The amount of bedroom fun with my wife during the pandemic has easily been five times the amount pre-pandemic,” one person shared. “I don’t want to go back.”
In another post, someone else said that quarantine has improved both their sex life and their marriage overall.
They wrote: “Shelter at home has improved our sex life and our marriage ten-fold. Sex improved, communication improved, we laugh more than ever and we’re better at finding cheap date night ideas to do at home.”
According to another person, the increased time spent at home has largely been the reason behind the improvement.
“Our marriage and sex life has improved,” they revealed. “I’ve had time for a sex life so my husband and I have been more active. We got pregnant as a result.”
For other individuals, such as those who consider themselves “swingers,” the pandemic has impacted other parts of their sex lives, with one person anonymously revealing that they are having more sex with their husband but “less overall due to the pandemic”.
“I’m having more sex with my husband but less overall due to the pandemic,” the Whisper reads. “We are swingers who (used to) have a VERY active swinging life. I miss it so much.”
The impact on more open relationships was also felt by other users of the app, with another person admitting that their swinging has “ground to a halt due to Covid” but that they are okay with it.
“My relationship is amazing. Sex with her is amazing. Our swinging has ground to a halt due to Covid, but that’s cool!” they wrote.
People have also used the app to open up about the negative impact the pandemic has had on their sex lives, with some revealing the downsides of the increased time spent together.
“Well… I’ve now realised I’m really not happy with my husband and I’m possibly bi,” one person wrote. “Took a pandemic to realise both things.”
Another person revealed: “I spent so much time with my girlfriend that I no longer want to have sex with her.”
