Pete Davidson has opened up about his split from Ariana Grande in 2018, explaining that he knew the relationship was “over” when Grande’s ex-boyfriend, rapper Mac Miller, died.

The couple got engaged in June that same year after two months of dating.

In September, Miller – who Grande had been with for two years – died from an accidental drug overdose. Davidson and Grande called off their engagement the following month.

Speaking to American radio host Charlamagne Tha God about Miller’s death, the comedian said: “I pretty much knew [the relationship with Grande] was around over after that.

“That was really horrible, and I can’t imagine what that s*** is like. All I do know is that she really loved the s*** out of him and she wasn’t putting on a show or anything.”

Davidson added that he “totally got it” when the couple split given the circumstances.

“I was like, ‘Listen, I get it, do whatever you’ve got to do, I’ll be here’,” he recalled.

“I think I said, ‘I’ll be here until you don’t want me to be here’.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Davidson, 26, confirmed he had split from 18-year-old model Kaia Gerber after four months of dating and blamed the breakup on his personal struggles.

“She’s very young, and I’m f***ing going through a lot and it was before I went to rehab,” the Saturday Night Live star explained, referencing a stint in an Arizona rehab facility last month.

“It’s just like, she should be having fun,” Davidson added. “She shouldn’t have to worry about some dude that just has issues and s***. She should be enjoying her work.

“It just wasn’t the right place or the right time at all.”
