Mary-Kate Olsen and Olivier Sarkozy have finalised their divorce, lawyers representing the couple said on Wednesday.

The 34-year-old actor and fashion designer filed for divorce from the French banker in May 2020.

The couple started dating in 2012 and tied the knot in 2015.

Now, after eight months of negotiations, Olsen and Sarkozy, 51, have reached a settlement on their divorce, according to PageSix

“As of this morning, we reached a final agreement,” said Sarkozy’s lawyer, Michael Mosberg, during a Manhattan Supreme Court video hearing.

Olsen had originally tried to seek an emergency divorce from Sarkozy last year.

According to documents obtained by TMZ, Olsen signed a petition for a divorce in April, but was told by New York officials that her request could not be processed because of the coronavirus outbreak.

Olsen and Sarkozy have no children together, but Mr Sarkozy does have two teenage children from his previous marriage to Charlotte Bernard.

Sarkozy, whose half-brother is Nicolas Sarkozy, the former President of France, works as a financier.

Olsen and her twin sister, Ashley, are notoriously private and very rarely discuss their personal lives in public.

“This is the way we chose to move forward in our lives: to not be in the spotlight, to really have something that speaks for itself,” Olsen told Vogue Australia in an interview last year.

“There is a lot of pressure we put on ourselves,” she added.

“If you want things to be perfect or beautiful, it’s a lot of hard work... Nothing comes easy.

“That’s just the way we were raised; that’s what we believe is necessary to do something different.”
