Laurence Fox has revealed that his girlfriend dumped him in the wake of his infamous Question Time appearance.

In January, the actor appeared on the BBC panel show and accused an audience member of racism for calling him a “white privileged male”.

The actor was discussing the debate surrounding press coverage of the Duchess of Sussex, following her and the Duke of Sussex’s announcement that they would be stepping down from their roles in the royal family. Fox described claims that coverage towards Meghan had been racist as “boring”.

Now, in an interview with The Sunday Times Magazine, Fox reveals he was dating a mixed-race fashion designer and photographer (who he has not named) at the time, who broke things off following the controversy surrounding his Question Time appearance.

The actor does not go into detail about the breakup, but reveals he is now dating journalist Madeline Grant, who was alongside him on the Question Time panel when he appeared on the show back in January.

Fox added that the appearance “caused a lot of stress” among his family.

“This is why you don’t get actors involved in chats like this,” he said.

“Because I’m just not smart enough to do it.”

The 41-year-old continued: “If you want to eviscerate me for having an opinion, then there’s something extremely wrong with our culture.

“And if it takes some k***bish d***head, half-educated t*** like me [to point this out] ... I can barely put a thought together, I’m that ill-educated. I mean, I went to Harrow.”

Fox insisted that he is “not denying privilege” and “not denying racism”.

“Of course racism exists,” he said, ”but if you demean it as a word, like privilege, it means nothing after a while.”
