The duo have been together since 2018, when they were partnered together on Strictly Come Dancing, which they went on to win.
Both denied they were in a relationship at the time – Dooley split from her partner of five years, Sam Tucknott, shortly after the series finished – something which has frequently fuelled interest in them as a couple.
“It’s horrible when you feel as if the press are going for you,” Clifton said of the constant media attention in an interview with The Guardian.
“If you read the tabloids, during this lockdown, Stacey has been pregnant, I’ve proposed to her, we’ve had big fights… It’s all been going down,” he added.
“In reality, we are the most boring couple in the history of the world.”
Clifton added that the couple spent most of their time working and watching TV shows, while he is currently doing an online workshop with the playwright David Mamet.
“I will be sitting here doing my Mamet masterclass and saying: ‘What do you think about consciousness?’ And Stacey does her work and then likes to sit and watch things like Selling Sunset on Netflix about estate agents in LA,” he said.
“We don’t even drink and there will be stories about drunken rages… We drink tea. I’m getting good at ignoring it.”
Dooley has previously spoken about her relationship with Clifton, too.
In an interview with The Guardian last year, the investigative journalist explained that she was keen to keep their relationship as private as possible.
“Kev and I have agreed not to go into too much detail about our private lives because you can’t really indulge that and then ask for privacy,” she said.
“That’s why we’ve turned down interviews that have offered us tens of thousands of pounds.
“What I am happy to say is Kev’s amazing, I’m happy, life happens, I’ve got an amazing career and I’m very lucky.”
