Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

You have just over 30,000 days to spend on Earth – if you looked back at the end of your life, would you be happy with how you spent that time?

When the daily grind gets us down, many of us pledge to leave work on time more often, put down our smartphones and spend longer doing the things we love, but such promises are often quickly forgotten.

So, would seeing your life laid out in front of you be the kick start you need to change?

A new tool has now made it easy for people to pinpoint just how much of their lives they are spending on different activities: starkly showing exactly how were are whiling away our days.

The interactive quiz created by the WatchShop calculates how long you will spend doing daily tasks such as commuting, working, sleeping, showering and cleaning.

It also measures the more pleasurable aspects of like, including having sex, drinking and having a chat about the weather.

The tool works by churning up information users give about their lives, and applying this to the average 83-year lifespan.

Questions can be skipped by clicking the “None of your business” option.

Users can then compare their stats to how the average Briton spent 2015, using data collected from the 1,300 people who have taken the quiz in the UK.

The results showed that men spent four days cleaning, 24 commuting, 80 sleeping, 3 having sex, 8 drinking, 7 exercising, 18 showering and 12 talking about the weather, Mail Online reported.

Women, on the other hand, will apparently get a rougher deal on average, by spending 6 days cleaning, 24 commuting, 66 sleeping, 6 drinking, 4 exercising, 23 showering, and 19 talking about the weather.

However, they will spend one extra day having sex than men, according to the data.
