From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Oscar-winning actor Emma Stone and Saturday Night Live writer and segment director Dave McCary have announced their engagement after two years of dating.
The couple shared their happy news by posting a photograph on McCary's Instagram account.
In the picture, the pair are both smiling at the camera as Stone – who does not have Instagram – displays her engagement ring.
The couple have been showered with congratulatory messages, including from the likes of tennis legend Billie Jean King, who Stone portrayed in the 2017 film Battle of the Sexes.
"Congratulations to two of the most wonderful, loving, and creative people we know. Ilana and I are so happy for you!" King wrote, referencing her partner, fellow former professional tennis player Ilana Kloss.
"Love is real!?" remarked Love, Simon actor Jorge Lendeborg Jr, while Set It Up star Zoey Deutch commented with a sole sobbing emoji.
Stone has hosted SNL four times, her first time being in 2010 when she was 21 years old.
Prior to the beginning of their relationship, McCary directed the La La Land star in a December 2016 SNL skit titled "Wells for Boys".
Their first red carpet appearance together was at this year's Screen Actors Guild Awards, where they were pictured with Stone's Aloha co-star Bradley Cooper.
In the early 2010s, Stone began dating her The Amazing Spider-Man co-star Andrew Garfield.
The ex-celebrity couple made their red carpet debut at the April 2012 Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards and reportedly split in 2015.
They continued to publicly support one another, such as when Garfield gave Stone a standing ovation when she accepted her Golden Globe award in January 2017.
