From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The stunning image, taken by 44-year-old Tracey Hollis-Rowe, captured a touching moment between the anonymous couple amidst the topographical beauty of the surrounding Dorset landscape.
Rowe, a Lancashire-based professional photographer and artist, was nearby taking photographs of Durdle Door when she suddenly noticed the pair, reports The Telegraph.
After a while, she noticed that the man was kneeling down on one knee, presenting the woman with a small jewellery box.
Clearly surprised, his presumed fiancée-to-be was seen with her hand in her hair, whilst the man smiled.
Whether or not she said yes remains unknown, hence Rowe’s appeal to find the couple and encourage them to get in touch with her.
Few conclusions can be drawn about the mysterious couple, other than the possibility that the man may also be a photographer, given that he had a camera slung around his neck.
Rowe posted the image on her Facebook and Twitter pages, writing “I hope the lady said yes! I captured this romantic moment yesterday at Durdle Door in Dorset... it would be lovely if the couple got to see this #hopelessromantic"
The Tweet was met with a flurry of respondents, eager to help Rowe in her search.
The wildlife photographer’s Instagram account is frequented mostly by snaps of scenery and delicate watercolour paintings of birds, rather than unknown couples proposing to one another.
She currently resides in Leigh, Lancashire and works across a variety of mediums including graphite, oils and coloured pencils.
