Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Today is the last day of our daily Lose Your Bearings contest with £500 to be won. To play, study the 25 companies listed on the Tokyo market and select the one you think will show the greatest loss, or the smallest gain, in tomorrow's trading.

You can use the share movements shown in the list to check the progress of your selections in the two-week game in which the prize is a fabulous £5,000 holiday for two in Singapore and the far east. You'll fly in style courtesy of Royal Brunei Airlines.

To enter the daily game simply select your company and phone 0891 252 301. You will be asked to leave the reference number of your company plus your name, address and daytime phone number on the line. Lines are open until midnight. Calls cost 39p per minute cheap rate, 49p per minute all other times and should last no more than 1.5 minutes

The results will be calculated by computer from the opening and closing of the Tokyo stock market tomorrow. All correct entries will be entered in a special draw and the winner will be notified.

In 1994 Royal Brunei Airlines celebrated 20 years as the National Carrier of Brunei, nestled on the North West coast of Borneo.
