From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Lorde may suffer from acne but that doesn’t mean she wants your advice on how to deal with it.

Taking to Instagram to address the topic, the singer used her Insta Stories to reveal she has had enough of the unsolicited advice and to share the various pieces of advice people have given her, despite never asking them.

Filming herself receiving acne treatment, she said: “For real though, acne sucks.”

She then continued: “You know what also sucks? When you’ve had acne for years and years and years, done all the drugs, tried all the things, and people are still like, ‘You know what worked for me, is moisturising!’”

The 21-year-old then described all the “advice” she’s been given.

“Make a mask out of honey, greek yoghurt, and avocado! All you need to do is buy an apricot scrub! Coconut oil, the secret is coconut oil!” Lorde said, summing up what every acne sufferer is tired of hearing.

And the worst: “Do you wash your face?” to which Lorde responded on Instagram: “It’s like yes, I wash my face, I’m just genetically cursed.”

The singer then offered some advice for acne sufferers - but one that doesn’t promise a cure.

She said: “For anyone out there who has bad skin — and actual bad skin, not the kind of bad skin you can just use a fancy cream for a few days and it will get better — I feel your pain. We’ll get there, we will. Promise.”

And the star’s Insta Story has resonated with people on social media - with many sharing how relatable they found the posts.

“Shout-out to Lorde for talking about her acne problems on her Instagram story… my hero,” wrote one person.
