From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Lizzo has celebrated being vegan for six months with a TikTok in which she praises the woman she was both before and after the switch.

In the TikTok, which the Truth Hurts singer shared on Tuesday with her more than 10m followers, Lizzo starts the video with a throwback clip of her making a doughnut milkshake in the beginning of quarantine.

“Hey so I found this video of me from the beginning of quarantine making what looks like a stale donut, pound cake, milkshake type concoction,” the 32-year-old says. “This is from a whirlwind tour and year, and after being seven years vegetarian, going back to eating all animal products.”

The Grammy winner then switched to a video of herself now, showing her making a vegan protein shake while dressed in workout attire.

“Honestly, I am both of these women, and I cannot condemn one woman or the other,” Lizzo continued. “I’m happy both ways and right now, this is what’s bringing me joy.”

Switching to another video of her dancing in the kitchen with a serving spoon, Lizzo said: “This was me at the beginning of quarantine, happy, loving myself, dancing.”

“And, you know what? I’m still that happy girl, loving myself and loving my body,” she added as the TikTok switched to another clip of the singer posing in lingerie from Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty line. “Love yourself at all stages in your life because you are who you are.”

The body positive video prompted an outpouring of praise from Lizzo’s fans who applauded her for the reminder.

“This is why you are my inspiration,” one person commented.

Another said: “Thank you. Been down on myself for simply having my body and not someone else’s. Time to love me and mine and all she’s done.”

Since becoming vegan, Lizzo has shared cooking videos and explainers about what she eats in a day with her fans.

“As a new vegan I'm enjoying exploring flavours from plants & plant-based proteins!” Lizzo captioned a TikTok showcasing examples of what she eats for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert on a “pretty average” day in June. “Every journey is personal and deserves to be celebrated.”
