Save time and streamline chores with new tech for the home
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. We can be rather lazy with our laundry, according to a recent survey. One in 10 of those interviewed by the Hoover Household Report 2015 admitted using deodorants and perfumes to get an extra day's wear from outfits.
Steve Macdonald, marketing director at Hoover, says: "These results confirm what we suspected - that we could all do with a little more time to get our chores done."
Hoover says its Wizard range is the UK's first fully connected wi-fi family of kitchen appliances that can be controlled remotely using an app - a concept bound to appeal to busy bees and tech-lovers alike.
The range includes an oven, hob, hood, fridge-freezer and a selection of washing machines and dishwashers. It can be simultaneously controlled, monitored and managed via the app, which can be downloaded to Windows, Google Play or Apple devices from iOS 7 or later. Visit hoover.co.uk for details.
SodaStream machines are also getting smarter. The new Power collection creates sparkling water at the touch of a button. Made in collaboration with renowned Swiss designer Yves Béhar, it is available in black or white with a stainless and anodised aluminium body. Touch technology is used to produce sparkling water in seconds. Complete with LED light indicators and an innovative snap-lock mechanism, the machine offers three levels of fizz, from lightly sparkling to intensely bubbly (£149.99, sodastream.co.uk).
AEG's cordless Ultrapower vacuum cleaner is another nifty investment. Available in Tungsten (£229) or Ebony Black (£199), it is compact and blends in neatly with its surroundings. Richard Vallis, AEG's brand manager, says: "Our consumer insight showed that the most important criteria for selecting a cordless vacuum cleaner were strong suction power, high cleaning performance with long run times and quick charging times.
"The AEG Ultrapower was launched with these in mind. This, combined with the aerodynamically designed floor nozzle and the innovative motor fan developed using gas turbine technology, ensures superior performance."
The vacuum lives up to expectations. Cleaning up to 60 minutes on one charge, it offers more mileage than some of its competitors. The Brushrollclean technology is a benefit; fibres and entwined hairs are removed by a separation bar and sucked into the dust cup. This saves the task of cleaning the brush roll and prevents clogging. Good value.
