I BEG TO differ with Mark Souhami, deputy chairman of Dixons, when he claims that "the terms full-time and part-time no longer have any relevance" so far as retail employment is concerned ("Give shops a break from the brickbats", Business, 3 January). If you're looking for a job, there's certainly a difference between a 40-hour-week vacancy, and one offering just 16 hours. Obtaining the former means that you can "sign off" and become independent, while the latter wouldn't even have you earning enough to have your national insurance paid. I couldn't afford to take such a part-time position.
