On Wednesday, the reality star shared an Instagram video showing her daughter jumping up and down with excitement over her first day.
In the clip, captioned “first day of schooooool,” Stormi can be seen wearing a black T-shirt, black shorts, and white Jordan high tops.
In a photo posted to Jenner’s Instagram stories, the child smiled as she posed with her backpack - a pink Hermès Taurillon Clemence Kelly Ado backpack, which retails for more than $10,000, according to Entertainment Tonight.
Stormi’s pricey accessory prompted criticism on social media, where many accused Jenner of being out of touch.
“Stormi Webster got a $12k backpack for her first day of homeschool. She is two. People are dying Kylie,” one person tweeted.
Another said: “This is disgusting to me. What a waste of money, how many people could you feed for a month with $12k?”
“We are in the middle of a pandemic. Some kids can’t even do distance learning because they are homeless with no computer, no wifi, no home. This is disgusting,” someone else said.
Among those expressing their disapproval with the two-year-old’s backpack was Real Housewives of New York star Bethenny Frankel, who called the photo the “most transparent humble brag I’ve seen yet”.
“I never say anything about this stuff but this is the most transparent humble brag I’ve seen yet,” she wrote on a photo of Stormi shared by US Weekly. “It’s everything wrong with everything.”
On Twitter, the reality star elaborated on her criticism, writing: “I commented on @usweekly on a $12k backpack on @KylieJenner daughter. I’m no stranger to an Hermès bag & have a daughter & luxury cars, but flaunting (under the guise of a back to school post) during a pandemic & the greatest unemployment crisis in our lifetime is a choice.”
This is not the first time the Kylie Cosmetics mogul has faced backlash over her daughter’s expensive purses.
In July, a photo of Stormi sitting with a white $1,180 miniature Louis Vuitton purse sparked similar reactions.
