Joe Wicks has revealed that his YouTube series PE With Joe has managed to raise more than £91,000 for the NHS amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The fitness instructor announced he was going to offer free live exercise classes for young people following the closure of schools amid the nationwide lockdown.

On Monday 23 March, Wicks, who also goes by the name The Body Coach, held his first live PE lesson on YouTube and they have continued to soar in popularity ever since, with millions of people across the globe taking part.

At the start of the initiative, the fitness guru pledged to donate all of the revenue generated by the classes to NHS Charities Together.

Now, Wicks has revealed that as the classes enter their fifth week, he has so far raised more than £91,000.

The father-of-two shared the good news on his Instagram account and thanked fans for helping to raise the money with him.

Alongside a photo of him holding up a sign read, “PE with Joe NHS Fund: £91,256.38”, Wicks wrote: “I’m super happy to announce that as a global community training together with #pewithjoe we have raised an incredible £91,256.38 for the @nhscharitiestogether fund.

“This is every penny so far raised from the 20 workouts we have done together. Thank you so much for taking part and helping raise all this money for a cause which I feel we can all be proud of. The great news is we can grow this number even bigger each week by coming back and tuning in again.”

Wicks added his support for NHS staff as he said: “We LOVE and appreciate you.”

Last week it was revealed that Wicks had achieved a Guinness World Record through one of his live streams.

The second of his PE workout videos managed to attract a total of 955,185 viewers setting a new record for “Most viewers for a fitness workout live stream on YouTube”.

Last month, the fitness instructor acknowledged the amazing response he has regarding the 30-minute workouts videos, writing on Instagram: “Words can’t express how happy and proud I have felt every day this week as the nations P.E. teacher [sic].

“I’ve been overwhelmed with the response and the support it’s had from everyone. As a result of so many people viewing the #PEWithJoe workouts on YouTube the advertising revenue generated has been unlike anything I’ve seen or experienced on my channel before.”
