Your support makes all the difference.Jeffree Star is feuding with Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick’s 10-year-old son Mason about privilege after the child called Star “spoiled” on Instagram Live.
The altercation began when Mason went live on Instagram alongside Addison Rae last month, where he was asked who his favourite beauty guru is.
“Well I don’t really watch makeup YouTubers, but I think James [Charles] - he’s really nice,” Mason said, according to a recording of the Live, adding: “Because Jeffree Star is, like, spoiled AF.”
On Wednesday, entertainment journalist Nola Marianna Ojumo tweeted about Disick’s comment, writing: “Now Mason Disick has done another Live and threw some shade at Jeffree Star by calling him ‘spoiled’ LMAO.
“Who knew 2020 was the year he would start to become my fav KarJenner [Kardashian-Jenner] kid?!”
In a now-deleted tweet, Star addressed Disick’s statement in a response to Ojumo, where he said that the 10-year-old may be “confused with his own privilege”.
“I had $500 in my bank account six years ago… ” the beauty YouTuber tweeted, according to screenshots. “Maybe he’s confused with his own privilege versus mine being self-made, hopefully his father can educate him soon!”
The Jeffree Star Cosmetics founder’s reference to being “self-made” prompted some to suggest he was referring to Mason’s aunt Kylie Jenner being named the “youngest self-made billionaire ever” by Forbes - a title Star questioned at the time.
“I declined the feature so they had to pick someone…” Star tweeted in March 2019 alongside a tweet from Dictionary.com defining self-made.
While some fans came to Star’s defence, others criticised the 35-year-old’s decision to address the child’s comment.
“Let’s all just remember Mason is a kid…” one person tweeted.
Another said: “Mason is 10! 10!! Why are you feuding with a 10 year old?”
This is not the first time that Star has faced backlash for tweets he’s written in response to criticism. In December, after receiving a complaint from a customer about stickers included in Star’s mystery beauty boxes, the makeup artist called the fan “rude and disgusting”.
Mason’s Instagram account has since been deleted, after his mother confirmed during her own Instagram Live last week that she and Disick decided to disable the child’s account, which he had set up without their permission.
“He started an Instagram yesterday and he didn't ask us," she said. "I did delete it, because Scott and I felt like - he's 10. I think there's an age limit with Instagram. I think it's 13."
Despite deleting his Instagram account, the reality star’s oldest son has still managed to find ways to communicate via social media - as he created a TikTok, where he also talks to fans live, shortly after.
