Jeffree Star has announced he will be refunding customers who purchased a holiday-edition mystery box from Jeffree Star Cosmetics after fans complained about receiving stickers instead of lip products.

Ahead of the Black Friday sale, the cosmetics company advertised the Mini Mystery box, which cost $20, as including an “exclusive mystery cosmetic item” as well as two other items, Business Insider reports. According to the brand, the retail value of the box was $44.

However, this week, some fans took to social media to accuse Star of "false advertising" after receiving two lip products and Jeffree Star-themed stickers rather than a third cosmetic product.

After initial complaints about the stickers, which were custom-designed by a tattoo artist, Star responded to one fan on Twitter in a now-deleted tweet, where he said their “entitlement is gross”, according to a screenshot.

“I just showed your message to the guy that spent hours drawing those stickers, he said you are rude and disgusting,” the makeup artist and YouTuber wrote. “My holiday collection was with Shane, mystery boxes are fun and… a mystery.

“Get over yourself, the entitlement is gross.”

Star later shared an update on Twitter acknowledging that there had been a “miscommunication” and explaining that customers would be refunded.

“We here at Jeffree Star Cosmetics made the decision to make the refund as well as still send the Mini Mystery Box to everyone due to our miscommunication regarding the contents of the Mini Mystery Box sold during the Black Friday sale,” the statement reads. “An initial posting should have stated: ‘every box contains at least one exclusive item,’ but due to our error said: ‘every box contains at least one exclusive cosmetic item.’”

The backlash over the brand's mystery boxes comes a month after Star apologised to customers who found what appeared to be "hairs" in eyeshadow palettes from his new makeup line. According to the YouTuber, the "hairs" were actually fibres used in the palette-making process.
