From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

On Monday, the actor and activist shared a video on Instagram of her hosting a retro workout over Zoom with a host of celebrities in attendance.
The “Exercise That Vote” clip is reminiscent of the workout videos Fonda released during the 80s and early 90s, and is awash with spandex unitards, grainy graphics and celebrity cameos.
From Katy Perry, Kerry Washington, Orlando Bloom and Amy Schumer to Ashley Benson, Ken Jeong, Vanessa Hudgens, and Shaquille O’Neal.
In the clip, Fonda, who is wearing a red bodysuit and matching sweatband, says: “Hello, class. We're bringing back the movement. We need you to be in shape for the upcoming race.
“I need you to be strong. I need you to be laser-focused. I need you to be fully committed to the task at hand. So, let's get ready to exercise our right to vote."
As energetic music plays in the background, the celebrities show off their workout moves while encouraging viewers to vote.
“Exercise that vote,” says Washington while doing sit-ups and wearing pink leg-warmers, while Perry, who recently gave birth to her and Bloom’s first child together, can be seen using a breast pump as she tells viewers to “get pumped to vote.”
In another clip, Perry spies on her fiancé as he performs bicep curls while she eats a snack.
The video ends with Fonda encouraging viewers to visit exercisethatvote.org, where they can learn how to register.
“Exercise your glutes. Exercise your quads,” she says. “And most of all, exercise your right to vote.”
The video, which was made in partnership with Register2Vote, has been launched to encourage as many Americans as possible to register to vote before the deadline, which for most states comes in early October.
This is not the first time Fonda has re-created one of her iconic Eighties-style workout videos to promote a cause.
In April, the actor made her TikTok debut by urging viewers to do a “workout” for the planet and join her first virtual Fire Drill Friday rally to protest climate change.
"You know what? There are too many workouts happening right now on television and on computers,“ she said during the clip.
"What I would really like you to do is to workout with me for the planet."
