In August this year, Bloom’s fiancée, singer Katy Perry, gave birth to their first child together, a baby girl called Daisy Dove.
During an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show this week, Bloom spoke about Daisy Dove’s temperament as a newborn, explaining that when Perry was pregnant, he would chant to the baby with a Buddhist mantra he has had since he was 16 years old.
The actor explained he would chant to Perry’s pregnant stomach in the morning, “which is what I do anyway every morning, I wake up and I chant”.
“And so now, I would just walk into the room and she’d hear my voice, and she sort of soothes a bit,” he said.
The 43-year-old added that the baby “likes it” when he walks around with her “cooing, chanting in her ear”.
“She responds very nicely. Katy’s a bit like, ‘What?’,” Bloom said. “It’s like I’m a baby whisperer, so I’m definitely winning the daddy points.”
When asked by DeGeneres whether Daisy Dove is a “mellow” baby and if she is sleeping through the night, Bloom said that his daughter often sleeps from 9pm at night until 6am in the morning.
He added that his nine-year-old son Flynn, who he shares with his ex-wife, model Miranda Kerr, is “well-versed in little babies”, as he has two younger brothers from his mother and her second husband, businessman Evan Spiegel.
During his interview with DeGeneres, Bloom also spoke about who Daisy Dove resembles most in the family.
The Lord of the Rings star described his daughter as a “little mini-me/mini-my Mum/mini Katy”, adding that she has Perry’s blue eyes.
“The eyes do look like her, but it was funny because when she first came out it was like, ‘Oh it’s me, it’s a mini me,’ and then fortunately she got those Katy blues, which was perfect,” he said.
“But then she sort of looked a bit like my Mum, so then I got a little bit confused because Katy’s breastfeeding this mini-me/my Mum, slash, you know… who’s she going to look like next?”
