From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Featured on Channel 4 show "One Born Every Minute," Ben Burgwin was standing by as his fiancée Amy Maddocks prepared to give birth to the couple’s daughter, Amber Rose.
But just moments before little Amber entered the world, Ben, 29, was sent to his own hospital room after dramatically fainting and banging his head.
Standing strong throughout Amy’s gruelling nine hour and 20 minute labour, it was in the final moments that Ben couldn’t hold out any longer and went crashing to the floor, hitting a fan and a cabinet on his way down.
Ben’s spectacular fall, while not enough to draw too much attention away from Amy, did require emergency medical attention - which kept him away from his newborn daughter for the first five hours of her life.
"They made me stay down and then I had to go to A&E to make sure I hadn’t done anything serious to myself,” Ben said of his wipe-out, before adding: “I think they were worried about concussion or something more sinister, but it took a while to get me seen and sorted and back to Amy and Amber Rose. I felt like a right idiot.”
However, despite the minor setback, the couple and their newborn daughter were eventually reunited - five hours later.
And while Amy was sympathetic to her fiancé's pain, she couldn’t help but tease him - warning him she’d never let him live it down.
But while embarrassing, Ben’s response to Amy’s pain isn’t too uncommon.
According to a survey of 1,000 new mums, five per cent of men faint in the delivery room.
It is safe to say Ben reacted strongly to Amy’s pregnancy - as he also gained weight alongside her.
"Ben started gaining weight almost as soon as I found out I was pregnant," said Amy.
It looks like sympathy pain and sympathy weight-gain are real.
Ben and Amy’s episode airs on March 14.
