Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Snap a photo with your iPhone and analyze, share, and get consultation from a dermatologist with Skin of Mine's new app for iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. The new app, announced last week, also helps you examine acne and other skin conditions, as well as wrinkles and the whiteness of your teeth.
Additionally, automated tools help you keep track of a mole between visits to your dermatologist by measuring its symmetry, border, and color regularity. You can also compare your mole to those in the app's database, as well as do comparisons to photos you've taken prior.
Currently only US residents in six states (New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Connecticut, Nebraska, and Louisiana) have access to medical professionals via the app, but the company said it is aiming toward coverage throughout the rest of the country. International expansion is pending.
The app also features a "wrinkle index" so you can obsess over your aging process, or see if an anti-aging regimen is working. You can also track redness and evenness of your skin, as well as the whiteness of your teeth.
Last year, the company first launched its service as a website, where users could upload their photos and get instant feedback from the site's software or other Skin Of Mine users. The new app is priced at $2.99.
Another derm-related iPhone app that is available for free is Doctor Derm, the "dermatologist in your pocket" that features descriptions and treatments of 135 skin diseases explained in layperson terms. It also features more than 250 photographs, and the app uses GPS to help find a dermatologist in your area.
