From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Olivia White, from Melbourne, Australia, runs a lifestyle blog called House of White.
The mother of two has over 60,000 followers on Instagram.
She wanted to create a conversation with her followers about the pressures inflicted on mothers by society to “bounce back” after giving birth in an effort to achieve unattainable body goals.
White admits that when she was pregnant, the idea of donning a swimsuit made her feel physically ill.
However, not any more.
Yesterday, White posted a photo of herself joyfully wearing a red swimsuit at the beach with a lengthy caption written alongside it.
She wrote: “I had struggled so much during my pregnancy with all the changes that happened to my body that it took me so long after to come to terms with the changes.
“Society leads us to believe that all eyes are on our ‘post baby body’ and everyone’s got to ‘bounce back’.”
White explained that she finally decided to stop focusing on attaining a goal weight, instead prioritising her happiness and spending quality time with her daughters.
The lifestyle blogger has received many comments of encouragement on her post, with one Instagram user writing: “You look amazing! And more importantly, you look happy!
“And your darling daughter is learning from your positive messages. Keep it up Mumma!”
This isn’t the first time White has taken to Instagram to dispel myths surrounding pregnancy bodies.
In May, she uploaded a selfie that she had taken after going through a caesarean.
She wrote: “To anyone who thinks [a c-section] is the easy way out, well try having a six inch gash in your abdomen like a gutted shark who had the body parts of the surfer it ate retrieved!
“But for all the skin tight Kookai dresses I bought while pregnant that now make me look like I have a Kangaroo pouch - I wouldn’t change it!
“Because if it wasn’t for the ability to deliver my babies this way they might not be here today.”
