Lady Gaga has recalled how difficult it was to quit smoking, describing the experience as “so brutal”.

On Friday’s episode of New Music Daily with Zane Lowe on Apple Music, the New Zealand radio DJ spoke to Gaga over the phone about the release of her new single “Stupid Love“, off her sixth studio album.

During the interview, the singer spoke about how she longer smokes, a change to her lifestyle that she found immensely tough.

“I’m not smoking anymore but I smoked 40 cigarettes all day long,” the multi Grammy Award-winning said.

Lowe then questioned whether she had “really” stopped smoking, remarking: “We’ve been down this road before.”

“I swear on my life I’m not smoking,” Gaga said in response. “I completely quit, I quit cold turkey.”

After Lowe expressed his congratulations, the singer stressed that giving up smoking was “so hard”.

“If you don’t smoke, don’t smoke,” Gaga advised the DJ’s listeners. “Because quitting is worse.

“It is so brutal, and I will never smoke again because I think I saw Jesus for an entire week. It was so awful.”

Earlier this week, Gaga released the first single off her highly-anticipated sixth studio album.

Neither the launch date nor the title of the album have yet been announced.

The music video for the newly-released “Stupid Love” depicts Gaga in a dystopian, intergalactic scene, surrounded by groups of dancers clad in brightly-coloured ensembles including yellow, green and blue.
