Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. On June 22 at 6 pm, 10,000 people will stretch out on the Great Lawn in New York's Central Park for the ‘world's largest yoga event ever', Y@GL.
To make sure you and your friend get the chance to claim a mat for yoga with renowned Anusara teacher, Elena Brower, the founder of Virayoga in New York City, 2010 Global Yoga Trainer for Adidas, and YoGA at MoMA collaborator, online registration is required and by June 15 you will be notified if you have been randomly selected.
The event is hosted by Flavorpill, a daily guide to cultural events in US cities, and boasts 20 live performers from slam poet Buddy Wakefield to musician and comic Reggie Watts and bassist Garth Stevenson.
Jet Blue Airlines is also running a contest to award five participants plus their friend, roundtrip tickets to New York City, two nights at The Standard hotel, VIP access to Y@GL and gear from Alternative Apparel. To enter you need to submit your email address, birth date and zip code online. The lucky five will be notified by June 9.
Should you not be selected for Y@GL, you may want to sign up online for one of seven free yoga classes taking place in Times Square in New York City the day before, June 21. The annual summer solstice yoga event, Mind over Madness, invites you to find "tranquility and transcendence in the midst of the urban energy of the world's most commercial and frenetic place" with one of the day's scheduled free yoga classes (available from 7:30am to 6pm).
Since it is Times Square, where anything and everything is known to happen, there is a waiver you need to sign as well as RSVP for a class. http://www.timessquarenyc.org/about_us/events_solstice.html
