From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Some meals served at the Portuguese-themed restaurant contain more calories and sugar than food at KFC, The Tricks of the Restaurant Trade programme has alleged.
The show, which airs on Channel 4 on Tuesday evening, reveals that a KFC Toasted Twister wrap contains 480 calories and 4.7g of sugar, compared with 594 calories and 16.2g sugar in the Nandos chicken wrap, Mail Online reported.
However, the Nando’s chicken wrap contained slightly less salt.
Chips were also higher in calories, at 546 and 310 in Nando’s and KFC, respectively.
The programme also highlighted a difference in price despite chickens being brought from the same firm: with fries and a wrap costing £4.59 at KFC, and an equivalent meal priced at £8.45 in Nando’s.
The Portuguese restaurant opened in the UK in 1992, but has since garnered a devoted following after expanding rapidly across the country in the past decade.
The Independent has contacted Nando’s for a comment. The restaurant told The Mirror: "All our chicken is British, meets Red Tractor standards, and is grilled, never fried. Nutritional information for all our meals can be found on our website."
