EATING one small portion of fish a day could halve the risk of a stroke, say Dutch researchers. In a study of 552 middle-aged men followed up for 15 years, they found that those eating more than 20g of fish a day had a 51 per cent reduction in the risk of stroke compared with men eating less fish. The effect might be thanks to polyunsaturated fatty acids reducing clotting and narrowing of arteries, they write in Stroke.
