Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

A public row has broken out between the editor of the prestigious medical journal, The Lancet, and Great Ormond Street Hospital's (Gosh) management team after it published a number of articles criticising the trust's handling of Baby Peter Connelly's death.

The Gosh board members, including the chief executive Jane Collins, have written an angry letter, accusing the journal of waging an unfair campaign against the hospital and "ignoring the facts", while relying on "innuendo and presumed truths" at the behest of a minority of consultants.

Last month The Lancet published an article about Lynne Featherstone, Liberal Democrat MP for Hornsey and Wood Green, calling for the resignation of Ms Collins. Ms Featherstone had said Ms Collins must resign because she "appears [to have] withheld vital information" from a serious case review of Baby Peter's death. Gosh managers yesterday invited the editor, Richard Horton, who came out in support for management change last week, to talk to other staff and patients who they say are mystified by his allegations.
