On Saturday, the Scream Queens star confirmed the news by posting a series of photos on Instagram.
In the first image, Roberts can be seen holding her growing baby bump while sitting on a window seat wearing an off-the-shoulder white dress.
In the next two photos, the actor is joined by her boyfriend Garrett Hedlund, who wraps his arm around Roberts as they both laugh.
“Me...and my two favourite guys,” Roberts wrote in the caption, alongside two blue love heart emojis.
The American Horror Story (AHS) actor’s followers and celebrity friends were quick to flood the post with well-wishes, including her aunt, fellow actor Julia Roberts, who wrote: “Love you”, followed by a kissing emoji.
Roberts’ AHS co-star Sarah Paulson also commented: “Beauty beauty”, while her former Scream Queens co-star Lea Michele, who recently welcomed her first child, wrote: “You will be the greatest mama. I love you Em! Boy moms together.”
Roberts and Hedlund were first romantically linked in March 2019 when they were photographed holding hands in Silver Lake.
In late July 2020, Us Weekly published reports that the couple were expecting a child and that, while the pregnancy was unexpected, it was happy news.
“They are surprised, shocked and happy at the same time, and so are their families,” the source said.
In 2019, Roberts spoke to Cosmopolitan about choosing to keep her love life private.
“I never want to talk about relationships I’m in or that are ending or have ended,” she said.
“It’s hard enough to be with someone by yourself, let alone with an audience. Growing up is hard.”
She continued: “Sometimes it makes me sad that I can’t have a private moment. Because of Twitter and Instagram, there’s a whole other element where everybody can comment on what you’re doing and no one knows the real story. That’s hard.”
