From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Chrissy Teigen has never been one to shy away from responding to trolls or critics even when the subject matter is something deeply personal.

While attending the Screen Actors Guild awards on Sunday evening with her husband John Legend, who stars in this year’s box office hit La La Land, she told reporters their next child would be a boy.

Clearing up rumours that she was pregnant, Teigen then said she knows that when her and Legend do have another child it will be a boy as that is the embryo they have left from their IVF treatment.

However, that did not stop one woman from asking: “Did you give it a minute to try naturally or are you avoiding ‘the act’?

“Thanks for asking, you complete witch,” Teigen brazenly responded. “I tried for about nine years. Anything else, let me know!”

The model has been particularly honest about her and Legend’s fertility struggles before they welcomed their first child Luna in April. During her pregnancy last year she defended herself against criticism she received when she discussed choosing to have a baby girl while undergoing treatment.

“We didn’t create a little girl,” she wrote at the time. “We had multiple embryos, girls and boys, we simply chose to put in a female first (and second). You’d be surprised at how many people you know go through this. Also every doctor knows the sex of the embryos, it isn’t some grand secret.”

She also said she had made a “mistake” in assuming most people understood the process about IVF and accused those criticising her of “reaching for outrage”.

The 31-year-old previously said she and Legend had fertility problems for years before they underwent IVF, saying they would have had children five or six years prior if it had happened naturally. She has also criticised people who constantly speculate or ask why a woman does not have children, saying you never know what someone is privately going through.
