Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Celebrities including Kim Kardashian West and Gabrielle Union have expressed their support for Chrissy Teigen and John Legend following the news of their pregnancy loss.

On Thursday 1 October, Teigen shared a post on social media revealing that she and Legend had suffered the loss of their child after experiencing excessive bleeding during her pregnancy.

The model wrote that they are “shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we've never felt before”, sharing a series of black-and-white photographs of herself and her husband in hospital.

“We were never able to stop the bleeding and give our baby the fluids he needed, despite bags and bags of blood transfusions. It just wasn't enough,” the 34-year-old said.

“On this darkest of days, we will grieve, we will cry our eyes out. But we will hug and love each other harder and get through it.”

Teigen and Legend have received numerous messages of support since sharing their devastating news.

“We’re always here for you and love you guys so much,” reality star Kardashian West wrote underneath Teigen’s Instagram post.

"We love you guys so much and we will be here for whatever yall need. Always,” actor Gabrielle Union said, while socialite Paris Hilton commented: “My heart breaks for you and John. I am so sorry for your loss. Sending you and your family so much love. Love you beautiful."

Model Hailey Bieber said that she was thinking of Teigen and Legend, saying that she was “praying” for the couple and sending them “so much love during this time”.

Actor Channing Tatum commented: “Sending so much love to you right now”, while Oscar winner Viola Davis expressed her condolences, adding that she was sending the couple a “big virtual hug of love”.

Cruel Intentions star Selma Blair described Teigen as an “angel momma”, writing: “I am so sorry. This grief. This grief. It will hold you and the love will break through. I am so sorry. Your family. You. Love you. My deepest sympathies.”

Ru Paul’s Drag Race judge Michelle Visage also commented on Teigen’s post, stating: "Oh Chrissy. Words will never do to express the sorrow I have for you and your family. God bless you all."

Teigen and Legend announced that they were expecting their third child in August, revealing the news in the music video for Legend’s single “Wild”.

The couple’s daughter, Luna, is four years old, and their son, Miles, is two years old.
