From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Chrissy Teigen has dedicated a page of her new cookbook, Cravings, to her late son Jack after she suffered a pregnancy loss last year.

In October 2020, Teigen posted a photo on Instagram which showed her crying in hospital and being tended to by medical staff after having given birth to a stillborn baby at 20 weeks pregnant.

In a statement, the model and entrepreneur said that she, and husband John Legend, had planned on calling their son Jack, adding: “We are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we’ve never felt before.

“We were never able to stop the bleeding and give our baby the fluids he needed, despite bags and bags of blood transfusions. It just wasn’t enough.”

Now, Teigen has explained that her new book has been created with Jack in mind.

Sharing a preview from the book on her Instagram Stories, the 35-year-old revealed a page that had freshly baked cookies on it with the words “for Jack” in the centre.

In a post, Teigen explained how much the book meant to her.

“How do you come up with a funny, enticing caption for a book that quite literally saved you?” she wrote alongside an image of the book’s cover.

“I didn’t have a theme in mind when we made this book - all I knew was I wanted a bright new energy, but I also needed comfort.

“I wanted to make recipes that would be timeless, food that brings joy to your belly, your household, those around you. I wanted people to enjoy not just the outcome, but the process.”

Teigen went on to explain the book’s personal meaning: “This book is reflective of everything I wanted and we needed as a family to bring into our home, it is truly a piece of us, and I am so excited to share it with you.

“So get ready for John’s thick a*** blueberry pancakes - the ones we make every Sunday morning without fail, sticky orange glazed fried chicken sandwiches, Luna’s unicorn milkshakes, and salty white chocolate chunk cookies so addictive you might as well double the batch.”

Teigen and Legend have two children together, Luna Simone, four, and son Miles Theodore, two.
