From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

A child has caused $1,300 (£985) of damage in a branch of makeup store Sephora by running wild and playing with the products.

Pictures of the destroyed makeup were shared by the Facebook page, Extraordinary Life Makeup Artistry, and many people have expressed outrage.

“$1,300 of Make Up Forever eye shadow destroyed at Sephora tonight due to a small child,” wrote the person on Facebook.

“I’m sure he/she thought they were like finger paints and had no idea how naughty they were being. Tons of destroyed product and pissed Sephora cast members are a not a happy place to be.”

She urged mothers to shop for their makeup without their children, adding that she “almost passed out” when she saw the “atrocity.”

She also shared her rule of shopping with children - ensure they keep their hands in their pockets and don’t stay in the store for longer than ten minutes.

“It was very helpful so if you must take your kiddos makeup shopping I suggest trying it,” she said.

She explained that the “massive demolished palette” made her sad, and many people shared her view.

“This pisses me off because it’s lack of f***ing parenting,” one person wrote on Facebook.

“I don’t normally go to Sephora but I understand how expensive makeup is and for someone to let their kid run amuck and not watch them is ridiculous, they could’ve knocked something over on themselves or hell someone could’ve even kidnapped the kid.”

“This is outrageous! How could the mother be unaware of what her child was doing. If you cannot manage your children then leave them at home!!! What a waste,” commented another.

However others thought many people were overreacting.

“Pretty sure tester makeup is voided for display only, they literally produce this to be touched,” one person wrote.
