From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Amanda Seyfried has given birth to her second child.

The Mamma Mia! star and her husband Thomas Sadoski, who are already parents to three-year-old daughter Nina, have now welcomed a baby boy to the family.

The couple announced the news in a joint statement to charitable organisations INARA (International Network for Aid, Relief and Assistance) and War Child.

“Since the birth of our daughter 3 years ago our commitment to the innocent children that are so brutally affected by conflict and war has been a driving force in our lives,” they said.

“With the birth of our son the work of INARA and War Child has become our North Star.”

INARA helps war-wounded children by providing them with the medical care they need, while War Child offers support to children living in conflicted areas of the world.

Alongside a photo of the couple’s newborn son, INARA wrote in an Instagram post: “We are so happy to join with @warchildusa to be the first to announce that our board members @mingey and @thomas_sadoski welcomed their second child into this world.”

Sadoski shared the charity’s post to his own Instagram account, alongside the caption: “If you’re interested in helping out the (now) 4 of us would love it if everyone able could set up a monthly $4 (or $44!!) donation to BOTH of these incredible organisations that help make the world a better place for kids.”

Meanwhile, Seyfried added: “@thomas_sadoski and I made a little man.”

The arrival of their second child will come as a surprise to fans, as Seyfried kept her pregnancy a secret from the public and did not announce that she was expecting again.

The couple got engaged in 2016 after six months of being in a relationship. They went on to get married in 2017, when Seyfried was nine-months pregnant with their daughter.

Last year, the Mean Girls actor spoke about how she wanted to expand their family, but admitted she ‘wasn’t ready” to have another baby just yet.

“If it happens to you, you just make it work,” she told People magazine.

“I want to get pregnant again, but I’m not ready just yet to have a second. I would like my daughter to be in school and then have my own time with a new baby, but it’s so hard to plan.”
