From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The property features four-poster beds, a student common room and a bathroom kitted out with gold mirrors akin to those featured in the Chamber of Secrets film.
The bathroom also features stain-glass windows and an image of a mermaid taken from the Goblet of Fire film.
As for the bedroom, it features six full-size single four poster beds complete with curtains surrounding each one.
There is also a large kitchen that includes a fridge, freezer, dual hob and microwave.
The interiors are a mix of dark wood and rich red, designed to resemble the signature colour of Gryffindor.
The property, named Dorm Room, is located in North Shire, Liveton, and sleeps six guests, making it perfect for those wanting to make the most of the rule of six that means people in England cannot socialise in groups larger than that.
The description of the property on the website reads: "This truly magical cottage has been designed to replicate the castle turret dorm room at a magical school that one particular boy wizard went to!
“Complete with six cosy single sized four poster beds, a grand but cosy fire place, stained glass and flickering candles it truly is reminiscent of a magical dormitory from the wizarding world.”
The description continues: “With its own fully equipped kitchen for self catering and a truly opulent private bathroom with a very special surprise feature, it’s the perfect getaway for family and friends alike.”
The Dorm Room is currently available to rent for £300 per night in November and December.
