From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The hairdresser to the stars was the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's personal hairstylist during their two years together in the UK.
He also has the likes of Alicia Vikander, Julianne Moore and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley as clients, and owns a salon in London's Fitzrovia.
Now the high-end hairdresser's products are available in Boots, in a new 20-piece range which launched earlier this week.
The line includes shampoos, conditioners, volume spray, holding spray, moisturising cream, curling tongs, straighteners and a hair dryer.
All items in the range are made from vegan formulations, are free from sulphates and feature packaging which can be recycled.
“The range is called Undone, because this reflects my signature style, but I also wanted to “undo” the maze of hair. Over the years I have tried every hair product on the market," said Northwood.
“I wanted to bring the Undone ethos to everyone across the UK and that’s why we have partnered with Boots to launch – I always wanted the price point to be accessible: the range starts at £12”.
Northwood worked with Harry and Meghan before they stepped down as senior royals, but was only able to reveal his professional relationship with the couple after they left for the US.
In a post on Instagram in March last year he said he'd enjoyed "every minute" of working for the couple, and that they had taught him about "diversity, equality and the importance of good mental health".
He added: "Harry, Meghan and Archie, wishing you much love and luck for your next exciting chapter! Can’t wait to see you one day soon - and so happy to now be able to share about our special time together."
The stylist said that his work with the stars had been a "focus group" for his new range.
He wrote on Instagram: "Over the years I’ve been privy to the most authentic, organic focus group: exacting beauty editors as well as celebrities and royalty.
"As such, Undone not only capitalises on my instinct for what women need from a product range but also, what women want for their hair."
