According to Google’s new Frightgeist study, it looks like horror will be a popular theme again this year.
According to the search engine, the number one costume idea people are searching for this Halloween is IT - the movie featuring the terrifying clown Pennywise.
Clown also comes in again at sixth on the list, cementing the traditional children’s entertainers as icons of creepiness.
In second and third place are witch and Spider-man, respectively, with dinosaur, in fourth place, also a popular option.
Pop culture will, as usual, offer inspiration this year, with people searching for costumes related to the TV shows Descendants and Stranger Things and the video game Fortnite.
If you plan on dressing up as a pair, Google has revealed many couples are searching for Lilo and Stitch costumes, followed by infamous bloodthirsty criminals Bonnie and Clyde, and the Fairly OddParents characters Cosmo and Wanda, in first, second and third respectively.
This year, dogs are getting roped into Halloween whether they want to or not, as pet costumes are also a popular search.
According to Google, the number one search is for “Chucky dog costume”, likely inspired by a viral video of a French bulldog dressed as the killer doll.
Other pet-owners are planning to dress their dogs as Ewoks, spiders, dinosaurs, and UPS delivery workers.
IT has also proven to be a popular canine choice, with “Pennywise dog” in fourth place on Google’s list.
