In the video, which was originally posted to Reddit, the blue Muppet can be heard telling fellow Muppet Rosita: “Yes, yes, that sounds like an excellent idea!” as the pair are recording a video.
However, reminiscent of the Laurel or Yanny debate earlier in the year, some people are positive that the Muppet can actually be heard saying: “Yes, yes that sounds like a f***ing excellent idea!”
On Twitter, where people are offering their sides to the argument, a significant number of viewers are convinced the blue puppet did, in fact, curse.
“You are all fooling yourselves if you think Grover didn’t drop the F-bomb. He did. Case closed,” one person wrote.
Another tweeted: “At first it sounded like he didn’t, but when I listened to it again it sure did. I’ve listened to it like 10 times now and he actually said that. Still shocked.”
But others are adamant that the children’s show is still child-friendly - and that Grover did not use the F-word.
“People are saying Grover said f*** somewhere in here but he clearly says no such thing,” one person defended the Muppet.
However, as some people on social media have pointed out, what one hears may depend on what the listener is trying to hear.
“Just saw this on Reddit and it blew my mind,” one person wrote. “Is Grover saying ‘yes, yes, that's a f***ing excellent idea’ or ‘yes, yes that sounds like an excellent idea.’
“I can hear both depending on which one I'm thinking in my head!”
Another person reiterated this idea, tweeting: “No joke it all depends on what you want him to say each time…”
