Chef Gordon Ramsay has shown off his impressive weight loss on Instagram, where he revealed that he will be competing in an Ironman competition.

The famously-blunt TV host uploaded a picture of himself shirtless on the beach, and wrote: “Iron Chef to Ironman,” before thanking the sponsors and volunteers.

The 51-year-old celebrity recently lost more than 50lbs through a series of lifestyle choices, including changes to his eating habits.

According to Ramsay, the key to his weight loss was eating more times a day, but smaller portions.

On the Today show, the celebrity chef revealed that he is now “very good at eating five times a day, but small amounts as opposed to a big breakfast, big lunch, and big dinner.”

Ramsay also discussed his exercise regime, which includes training for triathlons - a workout he credits with “saving his life.”

During a Reddit Ask Me Anything, the British chef responded to a question about keeping a balance between work and life.

“Honestly, I’d say about 12 years ago, I was struggling under immense pressure and I was finding it very difficult to switch off, so I started running.

“I found that balance and that release and that’s really important. The busier I got, the fitter I got,” he said.

Ramsay has previously discussed his weight loss motivation, which included fears for his health after his own father passed away at the age of 53.

Additionally, the famous chef did it for his wife, Tana, who “was not impressed with the way I was.”

In an interview with the The Times, Ramsay said: “I was overweight, 18 stone. I looked like a sack of s***. I look at the pictures and think ‘How did Tana stay around?’”

Now the couple works out together, competing in the Ironman - a triathlon that consists of a 2.4-mile (3.86 km) swim, a 112-mile (180.25 km) bicycle ride and a marathon 26.22-mile (42.20 km) run.

In response to Ramsay’s transformation, fans of the chef praised him for his dedication and hard work.

“Looking good chef!” one person wrote.
